There are a few different ways to remove rusted nuts from a gas tank. Try these in order and see how it works out for you. Spray the rust penetrator onto the rusted nut. You want to spray all sides of this if possible. That way you can really get the penetrant into the nut where it needs to be. Allow it to soak for an hour. Attempt to remove the nut using the 3/8-inch ratchet and sockets. You may be able to break loose the nut at this point, but chances are it’s rusted solid. Proceed to the next step if necessary. Attempt to remove the nut using the 3/8-inch breaker bar and sockets. This should give you extra leverage to release the nut. Spray the rust penetrant again, and allow to soak for 24 hours.
