Use a metal tool such as screwdriver to remove chunks of rust if necessary. Afterward, use a wire brush to remove any loose particles of rust. Wash the rusted item with warm soapy water. Remove any excess dirt and grease or oil. Otherwise, the process won’t work effectively. Find a piece of ferrous metal (iron or stainless steel) to use as an electrode. Hook the electrode to the charger’s red lead. Connect the rusted item to the black lead. Pour 5 gallons of water in a plastic bucket. Add approximately 1 cup of baking soda.
