How Do You Remove Rust From Metal Furniture?
While metal furniture makes an attractive patio decoration, over time it can start to rust. Leaving furniture outside exacerbates this problem. Repainting won’t solve your problem. Instead, you need to convert the rust to a harmless substance using a rust converter or work by hand to remove it. Once you’ve removed all bits of rust, you can repaint the furniture however you choose. Prepare a soapy water solution using dish soap and warm water. Wash the rusty metal furniture with this solution, using a rag to clean it. Coat the metal furniture with a degreaser. Then allow it to dry naturally. The degreaser helps protect non-rusted parts of the furniture from the rust converter. Pour rust converter into a bucket. Using a paintbrush or a paint roller, coat the rusted furniture with rust converter. Wait for the initial coat to dry, approximately 20 minutes, according to The Rust Store. Apply another coat of rust converter, working in the same manner. Let the metal furniture dry for 24 hours
