How Do You Remove Rust From Dishes & Dishwashers?

Dishes and dishwashers can become rusted for various reasons, one of which is if your water supply contains a lot of iron. Water reacts with iron when oxygen is present, causing rust to form. Private wells can be especially hard on dishes and dishwashers because the water usually contains large amounts of iron. However, removing rust from dishes and dishwashers is not that difficult. Place rusty dishes inside the rusted dishwasher, loading the dishwasher like you normally would. Add rust remover for appliances to the detergent dispenser inside the dishwasher, and also pour a small amount in the bottom of the dishwasher. Turn the dishwasher on and let it run using the longest dishwashing cycle. Add regular dishwashing detergent to the dispenser in the dishwasher, after it has completed the entire washing cycle. Turn the dishwasher back on to rewash the dishes and remove any traces of rust remover that may still be present.
