The registry is a large management database that is used to run programs, applications and system components. It is also a target by hackers and attackers who wish to gain control of your computer. There are many rogue anti-spyware and rogue registry cleaners that gain control of your computer and display volumes of pop-ups stating that your registry is damaged and needs cleaning or repairing. Before these programs can damage your computer, it is important to safely eliminate them without damaging system components. Step 1 Run a registry cleaner program if you are seeing unusual registry pop-ups. To do that, download and install a free registry cleaner program such as CCleaner (see “Additional Resources,” below).
