Mineral spirits or paint thinner should not harm your car’s paint job, but will take off the paint splotches. Park your car somewhere in the shade with proper ventilation. Outside, under a carport, under a large tree or in your garage with the door open are all good places to work. Soak a towel or paper towel in the sink and then place it on the paint stain. Let it sit for three hours. For larger paint stains, let it sit overnight. Take off the towel. Using a dry towel, try and scrub off the paint.
