Step 3 Add 2 to 3 tbs. of dishwashing or laundry detergent. Step 4 Set the heat on medium and leave for about 8 hours or overnight. Step 5 Carefully remove the hardware from the pot (it will be quite hot, so use tongs or a slotted spoon), and set it on a cloth or protected surface to cool.
