Bicycle frames are constructed of a variety of materials including aluminum and steel. Aluminum is increasing in popularity due to its light weight. If you decide to change the paint color on an aluminum bicycle frame you must prepare the frame. The first step requires stripping off original paint to reveal a clean surface. If you do not strip off the old paint, the new paint can crack and peel. Detach both wheels from the bicycle frame. Release the brake from above the wheel using the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific brake type. Flip the metal release lever on the side of the wheel into the open position and unscrew the nut on the opposite side of the wheel to remove it from the bicycle. Cover all parts of the bicycle, other than the frame, with plastic and tape to prevent them from being damaged. Move the bicycle frame outdoors and place it on top of a plastic tarp. Shake the can of foam paint stripper and remove the cap. Many brands recommend that the can be shaken for
