How Do You Remove Paint From A Urethane Bumper On A Corvette?
Removing the paint from a urethane bumper on a Corvette is a relatively simple process. Since urethane is a plastic, you don’t want to use paint stripper or you could damage the structure of the bumper. Removing paint from the Corvette’s urethane surface should only be done using sandpaper. Wet the 600 grit sandpaper down and begin sanding off the clear coat. Make sure that you sand all areas of the bumper. The 600 grit sandpaper will remove the clear coat and some of the paint. 600 grit is coarse enough to do this without being so coarse as to scratch the plastic too badly. Clean off the bumper with a clean towel. Soak the 1,000 grit sandpaper in a bucket of water for a few minutes and then sand the bumper down again. The 1,000 grit sandpaper will smooth out any scratches you created with the coarse grit sandpaper in step 1. Make sure that you sand all areas of the bumper until the paint has been removed. Wipe down the bumper with a towel.
