How Do You Remove Paint From A Fireplace Using Muriatic Acid?

0

Muriatic acid, more commonly called spirits of the salt in England, or hydrochloric acid in America, is highly corrosive. Muriatic acid can be created using sulfuric acid and common salt, but can be found naturally in gastric acid. When using muriatic acid, it is always good to have baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, nearby. Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes acids such as muriatic acid. Don eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing. Prepare the area to protect against acid spillage. Very thick plastic or rubber is a good idea. Thin materials can be used if the affected area is cleaned immediately. Have baking soda nearby. Mix muriatic acid with water. The mix should be four parts water and one part muriatic acid. Apply the acid/water mixture to the nylon brush. Scrub the area where you want to remove paint. Rinse area well.
