Nothing can beat the hardness of modern poly hard coat that you find on today’s electric guitars. They can take a severe beating and still protect the guitar in stellar fashion. However, with age comes oxidation of the guitar’s finish, but this isn’t a problem if you take steps to bring that shine back out. Using a three-stage restoration system similar to automobile detailing will work wonders on newer guitar finishes. Apply a small amount of scratch removal compound to a cotton applicator and apply to the body of the guitar in small three-inch circles that overlap each other by one inch. Do not let the compound build up into a dry paste on your applicator as this can cause scratches. When you need more compound, trim the used part of your applicator away or start with a fresh one. Wipe excess compound from the finish using a cotton cloth and naphtha. Allow naphtha to dry before continuing.
