Old masking tape can be unsightly when it’s stuck to wood, walls or windows. When you try to pull up the tape, you sometimes leave residue behind. In addition, if you do not properly remove the tape, scratches or paint chips may cause damage. You can, however, remove the old masking tape without destroying the surface underneath. And you won’t need to purchase any special equipment: You can complete this process with materials you have lying around your home. Step 1 Dip a washcloth in hot water. The water should be hot enough to be steaming, but not hot enough to scald your skin. Immerse the cloth completely in the water. Wring it out completely.
