Removing an old garbage disposal is an easy process. With a basic set of hand tools and in some cases, an extra hand, anyone can do it. It is important to determine what you will do once it is removed. Will you be replacing with a new disposal? Converting your sink to a standard drain? If you are not prepared to do either, you will end up with a sink that cannot be used. If you are ready to go, follow these easy steps. Remove any items located under the sink. You will need plenty of room to work. Locate the electric cord for the disposal and unplug. This is very important! Never perform any work on the disposal while it is plugged in. On the back of the disposal you will find a drain line. This line is connected to the PVC pipe which forms the P-trap.
