You can remove the outer skin from your gourd as soon as the mold is gone, or you can leave the skin intact and paint the gourd. Step 1 Wear a mask or respirator to protect yourself from inhaling mold spores. Step 2 Thoroughly wet the surface of your dried gourd by soaking it in warm soapy water for a few minutes.
