Mold microorganisms are everywhere; they even exist in the air we breathe. Mold requires moisture to grow. Without the moisture, the mold spores will die. Under the right temperature and moisture levels, mold can stain and even damage the areas around a window. For the mold to grow, it needs a food source, the right temperature and a source of moisture. Remove these aspects from the environment and the mold spores cannot reproduce. The best weapon against mold is prevention. Create a hydrogen peroxide/water mixture that is 1 part peroxide and 2 parts water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the molded area well. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Open the window. This will allow for ventilation and will help with cleanup. Place newspaper on the floor to capture the mold that may fall off during cleaning. Use a soft bristled brush to brush the mold off of the surface of the window jamb.
