How Do You Remove Mildew Stain From Carpet?
Like other members of the fungus family, mildew thrives in an environment that’s consistently moist and warm. If your carpet is exposed to these conditions for awhile, it can develop mildew stains. Not only is mildew unsanitary, it causes odors. Keeping your carpet in usable condition depends upon removing the mildew stains completely so there’s no threat of them growing back. Turn on a dehumidifier in the room where the carpet is mildewy. Removing moisture from the air helps prevent further mildew development. Bring your carpet outside, if possible, and lay it in direct sunlight. The sunlight will dry out any moisture in the carpet and kill the mildew spores. Vacuum your carpet to remove loose mildew spores. Once you’ve finished vacuuming, immediately throw away your vacuum bag so mildew spores can’t get transferred to other surfaces. Mix a 50/50 mildew cleansing solution with 1 cup rubbing alcohol and 1 cup water. Sponge mildew stains on your carpet with the diluted alcohol solution.
