How Do You Remove Glue From Glass Jars?
Glass jars are easy to re-use, and what once held jam or mayonnaise can easily become a perfectly good glass or vase. The only sticking point–literally–is the glue that’s left on after you’ve taken off the jam or mayonnaise label. Here are some simple, effective ways to remove that glue. Use heat to soften the glue. Either soak the jar in hot water for a couple of hours, blow the area with a hairdryer, or fill the jar with water and microwave it until just hot to the touch. Use your fingers to peel off as much of the label as you can. Some glue probably will remain. Spread a little cooking oil or peanut butter onto the glue area using a paper towel. The oil will release the glue. Let it sit an hour or more, soak the glass in hot, soapy water (dishwashing detergent is fine) and rub or peel off the glue. Repeat procedure if necessary.
