Removing felt from a pool table is necessary if the felt becomes scratched, or you just want to change the look of the table. Removing the felt should be an easy task, but do it carefully so you don’t ruin the wood beneath it. Take out the pockets from the table. Push up on the bottom of the pockets and they should pop up from underneath. If necessary, use a flathead screwdriver and wedge it under the lip of the pockets around the felt on top of the table. This should loosen the pockets enough to be able to pull them up. Remove the rails from the edges of the pool table. Unscrew the bolts from underneath the table. Once the bolts are out, the rails should lift right off the edges of the table. Use a staple remover or flathead screwdriver to remove the staples. Underneath the rails, there will be staples attaching the felt to the table. Lift and remove the staples being careful not to twist them.
