How do you remove dog urine from upholstery?
Dog urine is easier to remove than cat urine. There are products you can buy at your local pet store that are designed to break up the enzymes in the urine in order to eliminate the smell and loosen the stain, so you can try those. If you’d like a home remedy, a simple mixture of white vinegar and regular old tap water should work in a similar fashion, though maybe not as efficiently as the store-bought products. Put on some rubber gloves, scrub, and work it in there, then blot up the excess moisture. Leave it alone to dry and the vinegar should break up the enzymes–do not use ammonia.
Once it’s dry, cover it in baking soda, and get out the 3% hydrogen peroxide mixture you should have on hand for cleaning cuts, and measure out a half a cup. Mix in a teaspoon of dish detergent. Still wearing rubber gloves, scrub this really well just as before and work it into the fibers. Let it dry.
If it still smells, you can always try Febreeze. It’s good stuff.
