A partition is a roped-off section of the hard drive that the computer treats as an independent physical device. Removing and cleaning recovery partitions on your HP computer can be necessary when you are performing housekeeping on your machine. Partition removal and cleaning is only possible during the Windows update procedure, requiring you to reinstall your operating system. Insert the installation CD into the computer. Restart the HP PC and press any key to boot from the CD. Follow the on-screen instructions until you are at the Partition Manager. Highlight the partition(s) to be removed and press “D” to eliminate them.
