This is an easy, inexpensive, green way to eliminate cat urine and odor from carpets. It is very easy and does require a little patience, but so worth the effort! Even after having the carpets professionally cleaned, when it would get humid in the house I could smell the urine that had been in the carpet. This is no longer a problem and it also lifted out the stain from the urine. If it is a fresh (not yet dried) soaking of cat urine, blot with paper towel. Remove as much of the urine as possible. If necessary stand on paper towels to absorb as much urine as possible. Mist the area with water from a spray bottle. This includes if the area has been dried already. You want it to be damp. The moisture will help draw the urine out of the carpet. Sprinkle baking soda over entire area. You want a good layer – don’t be stingy! Let dry.
