Remove as much of the main carpet padding as possible, simply by pulling it up. Wearing a mask will help prevent inhalation of any dust that may get stirred up. Discard padding and sweep floor thoroughly. Place a cloth or piece of cardboard next to the staple to be removed, to protect the floor from being scratched. If it is not necessary to protect the floor, the cloth or cardboard is not needed. Insert the claw of a hammer or the screw driver underneath the staple, being sure the cloth or cardboard is underneath the tool. Using the floor as leverage, pry the staple loose. If only one
