How Do You Remove Carpet Padding Glue?
Whether you are replacing your carpet or removing it completely to expose your hardwood floors or concrete, you will have to deal with carpet padding glue. Removing carpet padding glue is not easy, but can be done following these steps. Scrape the majority of the old carpet padding glue with a metal spatula. Heat the metal spatula with a heat gun and work in one square foot sections. Wipe the spatula with a towel and repeat. Put on protective gloves. Ventilate your work space by opening all windows and running an exhaust fan. Turn off your gas furnace and gas water heater. Soak a towel with adhesive remover. Apply the remover with towel and allow it to penetrate the glue for 5 minutes. Take your plastic spatula and scrape the softened glue. Work in small sections until the glue has been removed. Take a fresh towel and apply adhesive remover. Wipe up glue remnants that the initial application of adhesive remover did not clear. Wash floor with mop and floor cleaner.
