How Do You Remove Brake Dust Shields?
Brake dust shields are inserted on the inside of wheels to prevent their discoloration from brake dust that gets emitted from disc brakes. They are vented with a directional pattern, so they won’t trap the heat of the brakes in the wheels. Brake dust shields are designed to fit the wheels with a matching bolt pattern for the lugs, and can be easily installed or removed. Remove the hub cap and loosen the lug nuts or studs on the wheel you’re removing the brake dust shield from. Lift the vehicle using the floor jack near the quarter panel of the wheel you’re removing the brake dust shield from. Secure the vehicle on a jack stand. Finish removing the lug nuts or studs, and then remove the wheel. Remove the brake dust shield from the inside of the wheel rim. Some shields may require pushing the shield out of the rim from the outside section of the rim, such as poking a finger or your hand through a space in the rim.
