Removing odor from clothes can be challenging because so many cleaners that will remove odor from other surfaces can damage the fabric of clothing or fade the color of the fabric. While many commercial cleaners claim they can remove armpit odor from clothes, some of the cleaners are abrasive and might damage the fabric. Before you toss the stinky item, try removing the odor from the garment with a product you probably already have in your home. Dampen the armpits of the garment with white vinegar. Allow the garment to sit overnight. Wash the garment as you normally would with laundry detergent. Pour one cup of vinegar into the washing machine during the rinse cycle. Smell the garment to make sure the odor is gone before drying. The garment may require another wash to completely remove the smell.
