When your kitchen faucet starts dripping, or worse yet, leaking, it’s time to give that fixture a closer look. Often as not you will discover the problem is a worn out cartridge. If you’re handy with tools, or just determined not to be intimidated by mechanical things, you can remove and replace it yourself. Here’s how. Shut off the water to your faucet. Remove the cap on the faucet handle with your small flathead screwdriver. Remove the screw securing the faucet handle with your phillips screwdriver, then remove the handle. Remove the keeper ring with your pliers or crescent wrench. Pry out the old cartridge. It’s a snug fit by design and won’t pop up easily. Use your small flathead screwdrivers first to create some space, then your regular flathead screwdriver, then your pliers. Pull straight up. Obtain a new cartridge from your local hardware store.
