A new over-the-range microwave oven can be installed when you are remodeling your kitchen. A new microwave may also be needed if your old microwave oven is old or not working properly. The new microwave oven can be installed using the same mounting connections as the old one. However, you will first need to remove the old over-the-range microwave oven before the new one can be installed. Unplug the power cord for the microwave from the outlet in the cabinet. Locate the screws that are used to secure the microwave to the cabinet and remove them with a screwdriver or power drill. Tilt the microwave up to lift it off of the support bar and mounting plate. Two people may be needed to lift the microwave if the unit is particularly heavy. Set the new microwave open on top of the range.
