How Do You Remove An Unidentified Operating System On Windows XP?
An undetected or unrecognized operating system on a Windows XP computer often refers to non-Microsoft operating systems such as Linux. Removing these from your Windows XP machine is just a matter of formatting the computer’s partition, which contains the non-native operating system, erasing it from the system. Note that all files on the partition will be lost, so back up all work before beginning. Click “Start” and select “Run.” Type “cmd” and press “Enter.” Type “format x:” and press “Enter,” replacing “x” with the drive letter of the partition containing the unidentified operating system. Finding this letter is a process of exclusion–if you have a “C” and “D” drive on your computer, and Windows is installed to the “C” drive, the unidentified system has to be installed to the “D” drive. Press “Y” to confirm the format.
