Unattractive iron stains on driveways, patios and sidewalks can be removed without using harsh chemicals which might be harmful to the environment. A laundry product found in most grocery stores will gently fight this eyesore. Mix a solution of 2 to 2 1/2 ounces of washing soda per gallon of hot water. Washing soda is not to be confused with baking soda. It is in the same family, but washing soda, or sodium carbonate, is much more caustic. Arm and Hammer brand washing soda can be found in the laundry detergent section of most grocery stores. Pour washing soda and water solution on iron stains and scrub vigorously with a stiff bristled broom or brush. Try scrubbing from all directions.
