Acetone stains are similar to deck stains, only they can be applied on surfaces like driveways, garage floors, patios, pool decks and basement floors. Sometimes, while staining one of the approved surfaces, the stain can get on your vinyl siding. Vinyl siding is comprised of two layers of PVC sheeting. This type of material is normally easy to clean, but an acetone stain makes cleaning harder. Plug in the heat gun or hair dryer and turn it on high heat. Hold the heat over the acetone stain. Acetone has a boiling point of 133 degrees Fahrenheit (56 degrees Celsius), while vinyl siding has a boiling point between 155 degrees and 210 degrees Fahrenheit. You don’t want the acetone to melt, but you do want to get it hot enough to be pliable. Wipe away the acetone stain with dirty rags as it gets hot enough.
