Dogs don’t always cooperate when there is pain involved. Follow these steps to remove a sliver from your dog’s foot. Muzzle your dog if he has the tendency to bite when he is scared. Don’t leave it on longer than 5 minutes because he can’t pant and will overheat. Hold you dog’s foot in your hand. If you’re right-handed, hold his foot in your left hand. If your dog is large and you have someone else with you, have them hold the dog’s foot firmly. Remove the sliver using a sharp pair of tweezers. Don’t dig into his foot. If you can’t see the sliver or it is too deep take your dog to the vet. Apply a canine antibiotic ointment to the wound after you remove the sliver to prevent infection.
