How Do You Remove A Power Steering Line?
Power steering used to be a luxury feature on some vehicles, but today, it seems like most cars and trucks have some form of assisted steering. Most cars use a hydraulic system to aid in turning, and if one of the lines is leaking or can’t hold pressure, you can strain the power steering pump and potentially damage the system. To install a new line, first remove the old one, and that can be done in about five minutes. Lift up the front of the vehicle using the jack and secure it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is completely secure on the jack stands before you crawl underneath it. Locate the power steering pump, which is typically mounted low on the engine, and nearby the steering rack. Slide the drain pan underneath the power steering line you want to remove. Place the line wrench onto the power steering line end and just crack it open. You want to release the pressure from the system, and by cracking the line, some of the pressure will dissipate.
