How Do You Remove A Pilot Bushing From A Crank Shaft?
• Locate a bolt or shaft that is close to the inside diameter of the bushing, and slides into the bushing easily. It should be 4-8 inches in length. • Take axle grease and pack the inside of the bushing and the small hollow space in end of crank behind the bushing, until the cavity is full. Try to fill the cavity as full as possible, allowing any air to escape as you do this. It should take about 1-3 tablespoons, depending on size of bushing. • Place the shaft into end of bushing, holding it in line with the crank. With a hammer, strike the end of the shaft sharply. The grease will act like a hydraulic jack and the bushing will be driven out of the crankshaft.
