If that happens, the finish will begin to bubble and could potentially ruin the entire guitar top. A careful, methodical hand will have the pickguard removed in very little time. Turn on the hairdryer at 50 percent power, allowing it to heat up over the period of one or two minutes. Test the heat of the hairdryer against the skin of an open palm. If the heat from the machine is burning, scale the heat back to 40 percent. Test the hairdryer again, scaling back the heat until the air produced is warm, not hot. Slowly wave the hairdryer over the pickguard in short passes, beginning at the top of the pickguard nearest the neck.
