You’re remodeling the bathroom and trying to take out the fixtures, but the pedestal sink has you scratching your head. Just how do you remove that pedestal? Designed for style as well as saving space, the pedestal on the sink not only hides the majority of the plumbing but acts as extra support for the heavy sink itself. Turn off the hot and cold water supply at the shutoff valves. These may be located behind an access panel in the room behind the sink wall or near the floor below the sink. Open the faucet to drain the lines of water. Disconnect the hot and cold water lines where they meet the faucet lines, using an adjustable wrench. Remove the drain pipe where it meets the bottom of the sink and the drain near the floor. Use a pipe wrench, being careful not to tip it as it will hold some water in the “S” section.
