How Do You Remove A Musty Or Mildew Smell From An Old Sewing Machine?
If you’ve just discovered Grandma’s ancient Singer, or your own sewing machine has been in the attic for more years than you care to count, you may just find as you’re tuning it up for use that it has an old musty smell to it. Leaving it on the lawn to air out certainly isn’t an option, but the smell is far too pungent to leave the machine sitting in your dining room or den. Take heed, as there is an easy way to rid your sewing machine of that musty, mildew smell. Sweep away dust and debris using a whisk broom or clean, unused paintbrush. You may also use canned air that is often used to clean computer keyboards. Remove screws from any compartments that are held shut. Open the compartment doors, but don’t remove or tamper with any of the mechanisms inside the sewing machine. Some machines have “trap doors” that screw in place and allow space to store bobbins.
