How Do You Remove A Mercury Outboard Motor Cover?

0

If you’re doing the maintenance on your Mercury Marine outboard for the first time, you know that you have to remove the cover (sometimes called the “cowling” in Mercury Marine’s literature and shop manuals) to get to the powerhead, the internal combustion engine of your outboard, just as if you were opening the hood of your car to work on its engine. Efficiently removing the cover, without resorting to violence and weaponry, requires a steady hand and a light touch, together wish a push, a pull and a lift. Step 1 Push down on the lever on the rear of the motor cover to unlock the cowling. The latch straddles the seam between the two halves of the motor cover on the back of the motor. Step 2 Lift the back edge of the motor cover and, while doing so, unhook the front of the cover from the hook holding it in place. Step 3 Lift the cover off of the engine.
