How Do You Remove A Brake Master Cylinder?
The brake master cylinder is a reservoir that holds the brake fluid for your vehicle’s braking system. The master cylinder, or “MC” for short, helps to create a vacuum inside the brake system and seals the system using a special cap on top of the reservoir. Over time, the seals on the MC may deteriorate. While a master cylinder can be repaired, most often it is easier to just remove a brake master cylinder and replace it with a new one. Open the hood and locate the brake master cylinder. The MC is usually located on the firewall on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Place the catch pan under the MC and loosen the tube nuts on the brake lines going into the master cylinder using the open ended wrench. Pull the brake lines out of the MC. Brake fluid will leak from these areas. This is normal. Be sure that the catch pan is catching all of the fluid. Do not get any brake fluid on painted surfaces as it will damage them.
