How Do You Remodel The Fireplace Hearth?
A fireplace hearth is often overlooked. Typically, fireplace mantels and the fireplace itself tend to get a lot more attention than the hearth. Instead, the hearth remains outdated and in need of repair. Homeowners can make a huge difference in the look of their fireplace by simply tiling a fireplace hearth. Prepare the substrate of the hearth by leveling concrete with thin set, or adding backer board to a plywood subfloor. Protect the surrounding flooring by taping plastic drop cloths to the area. Use a measuring tape to locate the center point of the hearth. To do this, use a pencil to mark a line going down the middle of the width of the hearth and one going down the center of the length of the hearth. This should create an x mark at the center point. Dry-lay the tiles. Start at the center point of the hearth and lay the tiles without thin set. This should give you a good idea of where the tiles need to be, and how many will need to be cut.
