How Do You Reload Windows XP Professional?
Windows XP Professional is a much more robust operating system in comparison to Windows 2000 or other earlier Windows versions. Despite this robustness, it is not perfect, and things can happen that bring the operating system to its knees, like viruses, malware and spyware or even hardware failure. In most cases you can reload Windows XP without wiping and reinstalling, by doing what is called a “Repair Install.” Place the Windows XP Professional CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer and boot up the PC with it. Press “Enter” at the first screen so that setup checks for an existing Windows install. Do not press “R” on the first screen or it will start a “Recovery Console” which is not what you want. Select your Windows XP installation in the list on the following screen, and then press “R” to start a “Repair Install.” This will reinstall the stock Windows drivers and reset the stock registry entries.
