The Acer Aspire 1642 is a laptop computer that originally came with the Windows XP operating system. You may have, however, upgraded the operating system on your Acer Aspire 1642 to Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you no longer want to use the newer version of Windows, you can perform a clean installation of Windows XP on your Acer Aspire. A clean install deletes the current operating system, cleans out the hard drive and reinstalls Windows XP. Insert the Windows XP CD into the Acer Aspire.
