If you have a gas stove and the pilot light goes out or if you go on vacation and cut the gas off to prevent an accident to happen in your absence, you will have to ignite the pilot again at some point before you start cooking again. It’s fairly easy, but in case you don’t know how to do it, here’s how. Hold a long match or a long fireplace lighter over the pilot light’s gas hole. Turn the gas up slowly with the knob on the stove. It should light immediately when the gas is turned on. Lighting the oven’s pilot takes a little more time because it’s harder to get to. On most gas ovens, you can’t reach the pilot light except through the back of the stove. Pull your stove out carefully. Remember that it has a live gas connection. Look in the back of the broiler compartment. Most often, that is where you will find the pilot. Light it just as you did the pilot on the stove. When you’re done remember to carefully push the stove back in place. It should be working just fine.
