A mixed-breed dog’s heritage includes two or more pure breeds. Dogs that are considered pure-bred are recognized by registry clubs such as the American Kennel Club as having met breed standards and a recordable lineage. Although mixed breeds cannot meet a breed standard, they can be registered with several registry clubs. Registration of a mixed breed allows the dog to enter club-sponsored competitions. Take your dog to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered. The AKC and UKC only accept spayed or neutered dogs for mixed breed registration.
