The Windows XP operating system installation disc has the ability to reformat a Windows XP operating system on a computer. This allows you to erase your entire Windows XP operating system without having to purchase any additional software, leaving you with a clean hard drive that is devoid of any data. Put your Windows XP CD into your computer and restart it. As the computer starts up, press the key displayed on the monitor that is labeled as being the “Boot Menu” key. Scroll through the boot menu options and press the “Enter” key on the “Boot from CD” option. Wait for the Windows Welcome Screen to appear, press the “Enter” key and then press the “F8” key. Select the XP installation you want to format and then press the “D” key and then press the “L” key. Press the “C” key and then press “Enter” to create a new partition on your hard drive, thereby reformatting it.
