How Do You Refinish Wood Floors With Polyurethane?
Wood floors can add a classic, warm look to a home but they do need some maintenance over time and that includes a refinishing after several years of wear. Scratches and scuffs mar the floor’s appearance but they can be removed with some time and effort. Most wood floors are made of 3/4-inch thick planks so they can be sanded down several times over their lifespan. Remove everything you can from the room and cover carpets and permanent fixtures with tarps. Vacuum the floor to remove any loose debris that could get stuck in the sander or rip the sandpaper. Countersink any nails that might be sticking up by using a hammer and a nail set. Remove the baseboard moldings by gently prying them loose with a pry bar. If necessary, use the hammer to tap the pry bar into place. Following the instructions on the orbital or drum sander, use a coarse-grit sandpaper to begin removing the old finish. An orbital sander is easier to operate but the job can be done in less time using the drum sander. Be
