How Do You Refinish Parquet Wood Floor?
Many homeowners enjoy the look and relative low maintenance of a beautiful parquet floor. One thing they do not look forward to is the process of refinishing these floors. With adequate tools, chemicals and patience the task can be accomplished within a day or two. The lustrous result is well worth the effort. Sand the finish from your flooring. Use a small orbital sander for the best sanding results. You want to avoid large sanders as they will not allow you to go with the varying angle of grain in each block of your parquet floors. A hand held model will allow you the control you need. If possible use a sander that comes with attached bags to catch the dust. Use a coarse sand paper to begin, such as a 20-grit. Then step down progressively to 36, 50, 80 and finally 100-grit paper. When you have completed this sanding the floor should “shine.” This takes patience and time but results in the best refinishing.
