How Do You Refinish Old Warped Wood Floors?
Make sure the cause of the floors to warp has been corrected. Warped wood floors are an indicator of a serious problem. There are several reasons a floor may warp: a water leak, lack of expansion joint, or the use of poor quality of materials used to install the hardwood flooring. Once the problem has been fixed and the hardwood floor is dry you can refinish the damaged area of the floor. Remove everything from the room. Use a trim pry bar and a hammer to carefully remove any base molding. Number and save to reuse after the floor has been refinished. Use a belt floor sander to remove the existing finish and stain on the floor. Start with a 100-grit sanding belt. If this gums up with finish you may need to start with an 80-grit belt. Sand the perimeter of the room and any doorways with the edge sander using the same grit as the floor sander.
