How Do You Refinish Maple Wood Steps?
When refinishing hard wood floors, steps are often the trickiest and most labor intensive part of the job. When refinishing a hardwood floor, you typically use a drum sander to make the job easier. Steps are too narrow for a drum sander and require use of a palm sander. Kneeling on all fours to sand the top layer off of step after step is back breaking work. And if the steps are maple, one of the most difficult woods to work with, you might be sanding for days. Refinishing maple steps is not a job for the easily intimidated but you can certainly do it if you are ready to put in the time and have the patience. Vacuum the steps thoroughly to remove all dust and debris. Use pliers to remove any nails that are protruding from the floors. Repair any loose boards by gluing them back down with floor adhesive.
