HOW DO YOU REFINISH HARD WOOD FLOORS THAT HAVE BEEN COVERED BY CARPET?

When we moved into our old house, the carpets had been removed from the floors, but they were a mess. We thought that the floors would have to be refinished, but my mother said that she didn’t think we would need to do that. All we did was vacuum about three or four times, changing the filters or bags each time. We hand cleaned the floors with Renuzit, warm water and green scrubbers. Then we treated the wood with an orange oil based wood treatment, allowed it to soak in overnight. The next day we buffed with old T-shirts. The floors look great and carries a high gloss sheen. Our routine is to wash with a light detergent, spray with the oil treatment, probably twice a year. We didn’t have to refinish the floor and the maintenance is easy. The floor is in a high traffic area, but it still looks great after five years.
