How Do You Refile Last Years Taxes?
Once you have mailed or electronically filed last year’s tax returns, you might discover that you made a mistake or you may have forgotten to include something important on your tax returns. If this happens, you need to refile last year’s taxes with an amended return Form 1040X. Before you start, you will need a copy of last year’s return. If you don’t have a copy, you can request a copy from the IRS website. Fill out the first section as it appears on the original tax forms that were filed. This includes your name, address, Social Security number and filing status. Use Part II to make any changes to the filed tax return. In column A, you write the amount that was entered on the original return. Column B is for the net change. Column C is for the correct amount that should have been reported. For instance, if you have another W-2 to claim for $20 and you already reported $10,000 in W-2 income, you would write $10,000 in column A, $20 in column B and $10,020 in column C. Continue making
